J. Crew’s Thomas Mason Dress Shirt | Best Seller But Not the Best Choice

J. Crew has come a long way in a short amount of time. They’ve taken the basics and raised their level of quality, producing authentic styles while also collaborating with other designers to make something better.

Working with other designers sometimes detracts from a brand’s value, needing the “help” of another brand to raise their own. That isn’t the case with J. Crew. Their collaborations have been successful, especially their best selling dress shirt, the Thomas Mason white dress shirt.

We found a good read on why its been so successful, though, at $135, it makes us scratch our heads. While there’s no denying the quality of a Thomas Mason dress shirt, why not have it custom tailored at the same price point? It’s still off the rack and therefore won’t fit perfectly.

We offer Thomas Mason fabrics, however, not in white. If you are looking for something similar, Italian fabrics made by legendary Tessitura Monti definitely measure up. We have Monti’s superior Prince Rose line and at $132 and custom tailored, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better value.

If you’re lucky enough to live in Chicago, then you’re probably aware of the awesome, high end fashion boutique Akira. We’re excited to now be working with them, offering our dress shirts at their Wicker Park men’s store. Akira offers nothing but the best, staying on top of fashion trends so you don’t need to. We couldn’t be happier to be included in their exclusive lineup.

We’re offering our shirts in gray, white and black. Sizes range from Small (14–14 1/2, 32–33), Medium (15–15 1/2, 32–33), Large (16–16 1/2, 34–35), Extra Large (17–17 1/2, 34–35) and Extra Extra Large (18–18 1/2, 35–36).

The fabric is a 2 ply, 80 thread count, wrinkle free Pinpoint weave, so it’s perfect for Spring, Summer and Fall. Made with a slim cut, it fits naturally to your build along with a split yoke for added durability. It also has a shorter, forward point collar and a French placket.

While we can’t put one of our dress shirts in your hands directly through our blog, we can give you a personal experience through our photos. Here’s a closer look at the intimate craftsmanship that goes into our shirts. Please click on each image for a closer look.

First, we’ll go over our Castigilia white dress shirt. Constructed of a 2 ply, 100 thread count fabric with a Pinpoint weave, we’ve chosen a fused collar and cuffs with no pocket and a French placket. It’s the essential formal dress shirt, perfect for the office or late night cocktails.

All of our dress shirts are made with a split yoke.

Our second shirt is the popular Pompei Carolina Blue gingham dress shirt. Perfect for the Spring and Summer, it’s made of a 2 ply, 80 thread count twill weave from Italian designer Tessitura Monti. We went for a sewn collar and cuffs for something more comfortable. We then got creative and added the buttery soft Purple Rose blue linen contrasting fabric for the collar and cuffs, which feels terrific on the wrists and neck.
